The assumption was simply that the future was ours, and those on the other side were merely the past.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We always think in terms of us and them, although we haven\u2019t quite figured out what us really means.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manuel Cicchetti\u2019s journey through Europe and his photographs in these Continental Notebooks uncover that a shifting, evolving identity does, in fact, exist \u2014 Europe exists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yet, all too often, a sense of nationalist ego prevents us from seeing it.
